Weird

I'm working from home today, sans Chicklette. Yep, I passed up the opportunity to spend the day with her and took her to daycare. And let me just say, I have not achieved this level of productivity since, oh, December 22.

Things today that are kind of awesome:
  • I can grind coffee beans with impunity! No need to worry about a baby napping.
  • I can get through a conference call without apologizing for a baby fart!
  • I can go to the gym!
  • I can lavish attention on my cats, who I sometimes go days without thinking about!
Don't get me wrong, I will be running stop signs to get to her this afternoon. But before that, I will enjoy the luxury of the next 6 hours. Even though I'm working.

Because working for The Man is waaaaaay easier than working for The Baby.

I'm not flaky and irresponsible, just pregnant

Thanks for everyone's kind words yesterday. I'm feeling MUCH better today (4 back-to-back chick flicks in bed will do that for a person). I am a little queasy, but that's actually more of a relief than anything else at this point.

I decided, after all of the convoluted excuses I had to make yesterday to justify cancelling a flight and a meeting, to come out to my boss today. It's way earlier than I would have liked, but it's looking like monitoring is going to be a pretty regular part of my life, and in this economy (and right before review period) I would hate to be coming across as flaky. I am EXTREMELY Type A at work. Since my boss is 3,000 miles away, I had more or less been able to finesse all of the IVF appointments, but it was just starting to get ridiculous.

She was great. Thrilled for me, told me I could work from home whenever I wanted, told me to stop hopping on planes -- basically a big love-fest. I'm so relieved -- I didn't expect her to be not great about it, but I didn't really know what to expect.

I haven't told the folks that work for me yet -- I don't really need to make excuses to them about appointments out of the office, right? -- but probably will in the next month or so. I'm sure they know something's up -- I just don't want them to think that that something is that I'm looking for a new job.

It's a little weird that my boss knows I'm knocked up but most of my family does not. These past few months have been really weird that way.

Twiddling my thumbs

Well, not really. I'm actually really excited about tomorrow's retrieval -- maybe too excited. I've been trying really hard to stay on an even keel this week, and every time I swing too far one way or the other (particularly towards the positive) I start to get worried. It's the whole jinx thing.

Anyway, today has been full of fun work hijinks. My boss is in town from the East Coast (of course -- had to be this week), and we're going to dinner tonight. She knows I'm having some sort of "procedure" tomorrow, but the whole thing is a little awkward. Also awkward has been telling my team that I'll be out -- I think I'm usually a pretty cool boss, but I feel like I'm pulling the whole "personal life is none of your business" card. I'm probably not coming across that way, but you know how when you're going through something you assume that everyone notices every little thing, even though they have their own lives and haven't given it a second thought? That's me today.

And finally, my ta-tas are totally out of control. As much as I'd love to be pregnant in two weeks, I'm a little terrified about what that might mean for my poor, sore, already DD-sized girls. At least they're balanced out by my fleshy bruisy tummy.

Is this what they mean by hourglass figure?

Off to LA

Lu.pron? Check.
Syringes? Check.
Cold storage bag and ice pack? Check.
Note from the doctor for the TSA? Check.
High likelihood that I'm going to have to shoot up in the bathroom at a work dinner tomorrow night? Check.

And who said business travel wasn't fun?

I hope no one's planning to steal my lunch

Because if they take the lunch bag labeled with my name in the office fridge, they will find a big, cold bottle of Ovi.drel. And a syringe. (Ah, the joys of having refrigerated meds delivered to the office.)

Bon appetit!
