Ready for launch

Well, technically speaking, anyway. At our 36 week appointment today, the doctor confirmed via ultrasound that the chicklette is head down. As soon as the wand hit my stomach, she proclaimed:

"Yup -- that's a head all right."

And indeed it was. A big round head pushing on my bladder 24/7.**

The good news is that now that her head is lodged in my pelvis, she's there for good. No worries about flipping, version, etc. etc. I like to think it's the 37 squats we did in yoga last week, but who knows.

In other news, I had my super-fun GBS swab. I have to say, it's a little alarming that a Q-tip in the nether regions can actually HURT (given what's going to be going down, so to speak, in the next few weeks), but then again, my doctor does not exactly have the gentlest hands.

So, one more week until I'm officially "full term." Exciting and so very scary.

**By the way (TMI alert), the books always say that if you are concerned about things leaking and what they might be, you can tell the difference between pee and amniotic fluid by the smell (pee smells like ammonia, amnio fluid smells a little sweet). I always thought that was BS. But I can now say with confidence -- pee DOES smell like ammonia. Yet another useful (and sexy) skill brought to you by late term pregnancy. See also: wiping your butt when you can't actually reach your butt.

I am glad baby barefoot is in ready position! How did the weigh in go? Hopefully not too traumatic for you! I am convinced that the cervix is one cranky little bitch. She does not like speculums, catheters, or swabs! It pisses her off! Congrats on full term. It is almost time:)

Ahh yes - a new favorite... gigantic little head pressed on bladder...

How about the gigantic belly resting in your lap while you sit at the computer?

We talked about the qtip test at birth class last night and I don't know why, it made me cringe...guess my body already knows it'll be bad. So glad she is in the head-down position! I'm already obsessing about this and am only at 28 weeks!

Wow, I can't believe it's almost here! It seems like you just got pregnant, although I'm sure it doesn't seem that way to you. It's funny how time always seems to pass more quickly for others. Good luck!

Head down! Whoo HOOO! And
dang, about the butt wiping. that makes sense. and makes me think of those handled thingies you can put lotion on your own back with-- maybe a creative repurposing with a little rubber band and ultra strong charmin?
seriously now.

glad the swab is over and very happy your baby is in position. sorry about the bladder.

warmly
Kate

Oh my goodness...I LMAO about the pee/amniotic fluid....yes...that is true. I had a breech baby so he never go into my pelvis and I did not have the leaking...but I am told it is totally normal. But even more hillarious is the "wiping your butt when you cannot reach your butt" comment. It brought back crazy memories of those last several weeks of pregnancy and the acrobatics that took place in the bathroom! Too funny! Hang in there...you are in the home stretch! I'm so excited for you....a baby by Christmas!

Ahhh butt wiping... Boy do I remember that! I would love to have been able to see how hideous I actually looked. wait. No. I'm glad to NOT have that image in my head.

Hooray for a head down baby. The bladder pressure is just unreal, is it not? I can't believe you are so close to full term. I think I am still in denial that I am only a week or so behind you!! You are rapidly approaching "any day now" status :) :)
